Fishing Report at Woman River Camp

Looking for a Walleye and comes up Northern Pike

Fishing at Woman River Camp has been great the past few weeks.  The weather has been mainly sunny and a touch on the cool side which we haven’t been complaining about.

Walleye – have been caught jigging and trolling.  Hot baits have been minnows and crawlers.  Leeches a distant third.  Jig and minnow or crawler on a #4 coloured hook with a piece of split shot has been working well.  If you like trolling, try a slow death hook rig on  a bottom bouncer with a crawler.  Lots of different size fish being caught.  28″ Lunkers to piles of 8-10 inch fish.  All depends where you are and what is feeding at the time.

Northern Pike – Spinnerbaits, and spinner rigs with wire leads tipped with live bait.  For topwater action, try a buzz bait.  While we haven’t caught many 40″ + lately, lots in the 23-30″ range.

Smallmouth Bass – they have been hitting the live bait and fishermen are having a lot of fun with topwater lures.  Lots of 17-19″ bass being caught.

Weeds are finally here, water is a little on the low side and we have had to close Rosen Lake as it is too shallow in the creek to get there.  Air temperatures have been cool lately making days on the water just great.  Not too hot and not quite cool enough for long pants.  We are enjoying summer.

Bear hunters will be glad to know the baits are quite active and I have spotted a few bears during the day.

Berries are ripe with Blueberries and Raspberries easy pickings.
