Viv lands a lunker!

Well it has been a while since my last posting. My apologies. I find it faster when in camp and on satellite internet to post to our Facebook Page.

Become a fan and stay in touch! We also encourage guests to post photos to our page! I will aim to post to our blog regularly.

Ear Falls Area July Fishing Report

Fishing has been excellent overall this year!

At the present time, Walleye are being caught along weed edges 5-12 feet deep. Still landing lunkers in the current areas and the fish are finally starting to move to rock points and humps. A little breeze sure helps. Fish the windy side of the lake.

We have been hit with the heat wave as well and the fish become as lazy as the rest of us. Trolling spinners, jigging and casting cranks have worked the past week. No special colours. We are even catching trophies on spoons.

Smallmouth Bass fishing was good early and the fish are now moving off their nests and schooling up. Find a couple and fish the spot aggressively then go back and slow down the presentation to pick up a few more. In-line spinners and rattln raps are working well. Twitch the floating Rapala on the surface for some explosions.

Northern Pike fishing has seen the monster fish move deep and we catch them while Walleye fishing or go looking for “hooks” on the graph by themselves on dropoffs. We edges are still producing good size fish.

Yellow Perch have started to feed and can be caught along and in the weeds.

Lake Trout are all deep but can be jigged up or use a three-way swivel and some lead to reach the fish. They are always a great fight.

Wet June Refreshes Water Levels

With a couple of wet weeks in early June, our water levels have come back up and we are able to access Rosen Lake, and the creek to Spot. Hopefully it will continue to rain weekly and keep the lake levels up.

July Heat Wave! Summer Is Here

With the heat wave, surface temps are in the high 70’s and summer has arrived. Guests have been catching more fish in the early morning and late evenings. When it has been warm and no wind.

Calf Moose

Portage lakes have been fishing really well although Narrow was a tough fish when I was there on Sunday. I sure do like a little wind when fishing up there. Otherwise all the other lakes are doing very well.

When it comes to bait, I am a minnow guy but the leeches and crawlers have out fished the minnow a couple days this year. Let the fish tell you what they want.

Camp projects

  • We have been busy replenishing the firewood supply.
  • The new generator is here and waiting on some new wiring.
  • We built new picnic tables for the camp cookout. Last week, Lyle treated us to some guitar and singing after the cookout. A good time had by all.
  • Cabin 3 has a new roof installed.
  • We just ordered stain to spritz up the outside of the cabins….

More projects on the list!
